Dance Program
Box 90686, Durham, NC 27708-0686
205 Bivins Building, Durham, NC 27708

Overview

My experience as a former principal dancer with more than 30 years of professional performing experience has greatly informed my development as a teacher, researcher, choreographer, and somatic practitioner. Working with numerous and diverse choreographers, historians and teachers has shaped both my exacting and intimate knowledge of the Joffrey Ballet’s exceptional repertory and informs my own choreographic work and research. My primary work is in choreography, classical and contemporary ballet technique, pointe studies, and the preservation of historical ballets from the twentieth century. My secondary interest is researching and exploring the connections between classical ballet and somatic methods.

Julie is a certified GYROKINESIS® Instructor and GYROTONIC® Apprentice Trainer at Spira Pilates Studio in Carrboro, NC and currently teaches Ballet at The Ballet School of Chapel Hill.
