Sarah McCaffrey T'13
Dance minor Sarah McCaffrey (T’13) matured into a fine dancer during her term at Duke. Upon graduation, she said the Duke Dance Program had an incredible influence on her collegiate experience.
“Not only have I grown as a technician, but the entire faculty has helped to nurture and support my development as an artist and independent thinker,” Sarah said.
“From my experiences in performing in the Dance Program’s main stage performances, taking lecture and technique courses, performing a solo at the ACDFA conference, and much more, the Dance Program has granted me many opportunities to learn and gain experience. The influence of the Dance Program has empowered me to pursue a career in dance and choreography, a decision I could have never made without the support of a wonderful faculty who have forever inspired me.”
Since graduation, Sarah has been aggressively pursuing a professional dance career. She received a very competitive scholarship to attend the Alvin Ailey Summer Institute, following which she auditioned for scholarships to train at the Ailey school and at the Dance Theater of Harlem for the year and she received both! In addition, she successfully auditioned for the Graham school training program. She has committed to the Dance Theater of Harlem where the audition committee has expressed that she has potential to be company material.
