Overview


As a leading dancer with the Joffrey Ballet in New York, Tyler Walters was featured in over a thousand performances at major venues across the United States and around the world. During his twelve years with the Joffrey he also appeared on national and international television including in three of the "Dance in America" series. His performing career also included Principal Dancer and Principal Guest Artist appearances with such companies as Pennsylvania Ballet, National Ballet of Iceland, and Atlanta Ballet.

Mr. Walters’ choreography has gained national recognition including a Choo-San Goh Award, and a fellowship from the New York Choreographic Institute (New York City Ballet affiliate). He has created nine commissioned dances for Carolina Ballet and has had ballets commissioned by Oregon Ballet Theatre, American Ballet Theatre Studio Company, the Joffrey Concert Dancers, and Ballet Theatre of Chicago. His choreography has also been in the repertory of Pennsylvania Ballet and Lexington Ballet. Additionally, he has created over 50 dances for pre-professional and university dance programs including Duke University Ballet Repertory, Carolina Ballet Summer Intensive, and North Carolina Dance Theatre School, and The Julliard summer program among many others.

Founding Director of the Carolina Ballet Summer Intensive, Mr. Walters developed and lead a highly selective program, which accepts about 150 talented students from all over the world to work and study with a renowned faculty including artists of Carolina Ballet for five weeks each summer. He also works with Carolina Ballet as Resident Guest Teacher for company class and has taught for such professional companies and training programs as the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Ballet Preljocaj, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, Ballet Hispanico, Abraham in Motion, the Joffrey Ballet School, The Julliard School, North Carolina Dance Theatre School, Princeton Ballet School, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and Regional Dance America.
