The Duke Dance Program is excited to present our inaugural Hymowitz Guest Artist Residency with musical theater artist Stephanie Klemons. Stephanie is the Associate Choreographer of Hamilton worldwide, the choreographer of Stephen Schwartz’s New York Premiere of Baker's Wife, and the UK/West End Tour choreographer of the original musical Rock & Roll Man, which premiered in NYC in 2023.
During this four-day residency, March 23-26, 2026, registered students will have the opportunity to take class from Stephanie and learn about her life as a Broadway performer and choreographer.
Stephanie Klemons is an exciting artist because she can relate to our students on many levels. She double-majored in Genetics & Microbio Research and Modern Dance at Rutgers and embodies the working artist-scholar model that many of our students identify with. Students come to Duke for a reason. The arts and humanities attract talented students who envision their studies and careers as creative acts, giving them voice and vision for how the world will unfold for them and how they will engage with their interests and goals during and beyond their university experience. Stephanie exemplifies how an artist can challenge the boundaries of theater and dance. As an award-winning choreographer, she is shaping what dance looks like while exemplifying leadership, initiative, and innovation.
One of the residency goals is to give as many students as possible the opportunity to work with Stephanie. Sign up for class visits below. The deadline to sign up is 12:00am, March 18.
