SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:  

Thursday, June 28th

ARRIVAL:      

3:00pm : Meet in Wilson Dorm, East Campus Faculty Lounge, Room 118B for GROUP WALK around Duke's East Campus wall (it might be Hot...think  "Bikram Hot Yoga")

5:00- 7:30pm   Get Together/Dinner. Location: Home of John Hanks and Rebecca Hutchins, 2504 W Woodrow Street, Durham, NC 27705. Dinner provided but please bring your choice of beverage - BYOB.

8:00pm Dance Concert: Ron Brown Dance Company at Reynolds Industries Theatre. This evening* is the Scripps Award Ceremony honoring Ron Brown.

  • Tickets are free, but you must let Natalie know by noon, June 26th if you a want a ticket for this event. *You could instead choose to go Friday, June 29, 8:00pm; Saturday, June 30, 7:00pm; or Children's Matinee Saturday, June 30, 1:00pm. Let Natalie know. 
  • Parking available for a fee (usually around $5).  There is no bus.  We will try to car pool.

Observe ADF classes: Technique classes are 8:30-10:15am, 10:45am-12:30pm and 2:00-3:45pm. (see schedule TBA)

3:45pm - 5:00pm Owen Rockwell Presentation: "Improvisation for Dance Performance", Rubenstein 230 

6:00pm-ON….Party and Dinner with Natalie and Bob Potts at Bob's big deck! 311 N. Elliott Rd. Chapel Hill, NC  27514.   BYOB…WE WILL PLAY MUSIC HERE…there is a keyboard and drum kit and congas. Bring other instruments. 

8:00pm Dance Concert: Ron Brown Dance Company at Reynolds Industries Theatre (if you did not go Thursday.  YOU MUST LET NATALIE KNOW BY JUNE 26 IF YOU WANT TO ATTEND THIS.)


SATURDAY,  June 30th

Observe WFFS classes at ADF (schedule available later)

1:00pm  Lunch on 9th Street at 3 locations next to each other:  Dales Indian Quisine, Bali Hai Mongolian Grill and Pie Hole

2:00-3:45 - Workshop with Tigger Benford: Building Community and Exploring Rhythm through Body Percussion Location - Rubenstein Arts Center, room 102.

2:00pm-3:30pm Nasher Museum of Art (across from Rubenstein): Free Film Series: ADF Movies By Movers, https://nasher.duke.edu/event/free-film-series-adfs-movies-by-movers-2/, a biannual festival dedicated to the celebration of conversations between body and camera. 

2:00pm, 5:00pm or 7:00pm: Dance Concert: Anne Plamondon YOU MUST LET NATALIE KNOW BY JUNE 29th at NOON if you want FREE tickets for this event.  Location: von der Heyden Studio Theater at the Rubenstein Arts Center

9:30-11pm Late night Dance Jam w/IGOMID and Joy Davis – Everybody who wants to: Contact Jeff Zahos at jzahos@ucr.edu– and sign up. the Ark, East Campus 

7:30pm   Dinner and Blues -  a non-ADF alternative: the Willie Painter Band at the Blue Note Grill (featuring our own John Hanks on drums) Cover is $8. Blue Note Grill serves classic North Carolina BBQ, ribs, etc, if anyone wants to go there for a meal. Some vegetarian options available, too. Great ambience and fun. Full Bar. The Willie Painter Band "plays a mix of danceable blues with a nod towards swinging jazz and an eclectic selection of rock and pop tunes". Band plays 8-11pm.

SUNDAY  July 1st 

All day - Observe WFFS classes at ADF (schedule available later)

9:00-10:30am Chris Cherry and Gerri Houlihan Class for the Dance Professional Workshop: Musicality and Phrasing. Location: Rubenstein Arts Center 224.

11:00am   Brunch at Natalie's house, 312 Edward St, Durham, NC (a chance to discuss Chris Cherry's class on Musicality and Phrasing with Gerri and hang out) 

(TBA afternoon: Musician's Concert tech)

7:00pm  ADF Musicians Concert, Baldwin Auditorium - FREE! Some of us will do a group improv..rehearsal to be announced.

MONDAY July 2nd

8:00am…  Morning Walk: Pumpkin Loop, Chapel Hill. A beautiful walk in the forest.  Meet at Bob's in Chapel Hill, 311 N. Elliott Rd. Chapel Hill, NC  27514, to carpool to the lovely walk in the Carolina North Forest.

1:00-3:00 pm   Last lunch gathering: Satisfaction in Brightleaf Square...Lunch and hang out ( pay your own way)  We have a reserved room.

Anytime: 10:00am to 5:00pm - Nasher Art Museum exhibitions, including Precarity, byJohn Akomfrah, "works with the themes of risk, hybridity and the unfathomable to explore the city of New Orleans through the remarkable life and times of Charles “Buddy” Bolden, the first person known to have explored the sonic tonalities of the music we now call jazz."
