Performance: Contemporary Chinese Dance in the Diaspora
DANCE 452
A practice-based interdisciplinary performance course in which students will engage in the choreographic process of a new dance work that draws from movement vocabularies of Chinese dance. Students will study and generate movement materials and perform the new dance work as part of the Dance Program's main stage concert. Bringing together music, movement, creative writing and multimedia, students will investigate different modes of performance to explore personal and social histories. Students will also engage in critical discussion on contemporary Chinese dance in the diasporic context informed by scholarly readings, films, talks, and works of prominent Asian American choreographers.
