Social Justice Choreography

DANCE 782

Social Justice Choreography is a process and project-oriented course that asks students to ponder the questions of what a choreography of social justice is and how dance can enact social changes. Students engage in readings, discussions, movement activities, and dialogues with renowned choreographers worldwide, both in-person and via Zoom. Topics include systemic racism, mass incarceration, gender, sexuality, disability, immigration, wars, etc. Students develop choreographic skills and create a final dance piece on a chosen social issue, integrating dance-making with social activism throughout the semester.
