Dance teacher, choreographer Jan Van Dyke dies

The Dance Program mourns the loss of this wonderful artist.  Please join family and friends of Jan Van Dyke for a memorial gathering on Saturday, August 22 at 3:00pm in the Dance Theater on the UNCG campus. The program will celebrate Jan’s life and career as an artist, scholar, teacher, and friend through selected speakers and video. A reception will follow the program. Please be aware that seating in the theater is extremely limited, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Some overflow seating will be available in a nearby studio with a video connection to the service. For those unable to attend in person, we will be live-streaming the program. You may watch online through this link on the School of Music, Theater, and Dance webpage.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jan’s memory are suggested. The Dance Project, Greenpeace, and PETA were organizations close to Jan’s heart.

You are also invited to share memories, photos, or videos of Jan on a digital memorial site. You can access the site here. We hope that this will be a place that all of us, near and far, can remember Jan together.

This gathering is the first of many events taking place this season in Jan’s honor. This fall’s 25th Anniversary of the NC Dance Festival will be dedicated to Jan; we hope you can join us at one of the performances in Raleigh, Boone, or Greensboro. In addition, the Van Dyke Dance Group is planning a memorial concert to be held at the opening of the new Van Dyke Performance Space, tentatively scheduled for Spring 2016.
