Robert Tigger Benford Workshop: Building Community and Exploring Rhythm through Body Percussion

In recent years, percussive dance forms have become increasingly a part of the American cultural scene.  This workshop will encourage those with experience in American Step and STOMP style body percussion to bring their skills to the class.  Our work together, though, will be strongly flavored by Indian approaches to rhythmic organization, employing vocal patterns to systematically learn material in odd and mixed meters with ease, increasing the dancer’s repertory of rhythm tools.  The workshop will conclude with brief group creative projects that will combine what we learn that day with what the individual brought to the class in the first place.  Bring firm fitting footwear.

This workshop will occur on Saturday, June 30, 2018 as part of the IGOMID/ADF Retreat, time and place to be determined.
