The 2009 Across the Threshold: Creativity, Being & Healing Conference, held on the East Campus at Duke University and at the historic Hayti Heritage Center in Durham, North Carolina, March 19-22, was designed to be a stimulating blend of the experiential and theoretical, including:
- Keynote address by Bradford Keeney
- Workshops in performing and visual arts, yoga and meditation
- Panels and paper presentations
- Keynote performance and workshop by South African dancer/choreographer Vincent Mantsoe
- Participatory art installation
- Bantaba – a celebratory gathering of community led by Baba Chuck Davis
- Opportunities to share meals, network, and relax
There was also a special pre-conference ½-day workshop with Bradford Keeney
Across The Threshold: Creativity, Being & Healing 2009 was sponsored by the Duke University Dance Program, with support from a Visiting Artist Grant from the Council for the Arts, Office of the Provost, Duke University; The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation; and the Robertson Scholars Program Collaboration Fund. Co-Sponsors include InnerChange Magazine, and the following Duke Departments, Programs, and Institutes: Department of Theater Studies, Asian & Middle Eastern Studies, African and African American Studies, Department of Religion, Graduate Liberal Studies, The Franklin Humanities Institute, Duke University Music Department and the Women’s Studies Program.
